The Belgian Minister of Finance has confirmed the introduction of mandatory e-invoicing between companies.

Timeline

E-invoicing will be mandatory for B2B transactions from January 1, 2026.

Impact

This move towards digital invoicing aims to address the VAT gap, enhance fairness in tax contributions, and streamline administrative processes in Belgium.

The government has chosen the European PEPPOL network for implementation, ensuring connectivity with other participants. The transition period allows for adaptation to this new requirement, and an information campaign will support stakeholders during this transition.

Businesses should proactively prepare for the upcoming e-invoicing mandate and assess their current IT systems, ERP systems, and tax compliance processes to ensure they are aligned with the new requirements.
