US Sales Tax Rate Updates for October 2024
The following state, county, municipal, and district taxes are set to change effective October 1, 2024.
The rate changes below will be automatically reflected in the Fonoa tax engine.
Alaska
The city of Mekoryuk introduced a 4% general retail sales tax, which is applicable as of October 1, 2024. The announcement can be found here. Alaska has no state-wide sales tax, but many local jurisdictions have implemented their own sales taxes. Remote sellers can use a single point of registration provided by the Alaska Remote Seller Sales Tax Commission for all member jurisdictions. Businesses currently registered for sales tax in Alaska should start charging sales tax on taxable sales to customers in the city of Mekoryuk from October 1, 2024.
Arizona
The Special District of Queen Creek and the City of Surprise approved sales and use tax changes effective October 1, 2024. The changes are listed here (highlighted in yellow).
California
California approved several district sales and use tax changes, which will apply as of October 1, 2024. The changes are listed in detail here and here.
Georgia
Dawson County and Glynn County will have county tax rate changes effective October 1, 2024. The changes are listed in detail here.
Kansas
Kansas is a member of the Streamlined Sales Tax Agreement. The agreement's purpose is to simplify and modernize sales and use tax administration to substantially reduce the burden of tax compliance. As of October 1, 2024, Kansas approved several sales tax rates and boundary changes. The publication on all city, county, and special jurisdiction tax rates can be found here. Louisiana
Jefferson Davis Parish and Quachita Parish approved sales tax rate changes effective October 1, 2024.
Missouri
Missouri published the applicable sales and use tax table effective October 1, 2024, which includes several sales and use tax rate changes. The list is available here.
North Dakota
Effective October 1, 2024, Burleigh County has adopted an ordinance to increase its county sales, use, and gross receipts tax by 0.5%. The tax rate for Burleigh County, starting October 1, 2024, will be 1%.
Effective October 1, 2024, the City of Grafton has adopted an ordinance to increase its city sales, use, and gross receipts tax by 0.25%. The tax rate for Grafton, starting October 1, 2024, will be 2.75%.
