Slovakia confirms nationwide e-invoicing rollout
Slovakia has confirmed the rollout of a nationwide electronic invoicing system, with mandatory adoption beginning January 1, 2027. The initiative is part of the EU’s VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) program and aims to modernize VAT processes through structured digital invoice exchange.
Key dates for Slovakia’s e-invoicing rollout
Businesses will be able to voluntarily adopt e-invoicing starting in May 2026, during a transition period running throughout 2026. Mandatory e-invoicing for domestic transactions will take effect on January 1, 2027.
How Slovakia’s e-invoicing system will work
Slovakia’s new e-invoicing framework will require businesses to issue and receive invoices in a structured XML format through certified service providers. The system applies to domestic B2B and B2G transactions and includes automatic reporting of invoice data to the tax authority.
What businesses need to do to prepare
Companies should ensure their systems can handle structured e-invoices and connect to a service provider. Starting early during the 2026 voluntary phase can help ease the transition ahead of the 2027 mandate.
